National Teacher's Day is commemorated and celebrated every November 25 in Indonesia. This commemoration is a moment to appreciate the role and services of teachers in the world of education. The theme for the commemoration of National Teachers' Day in 2024 is “Great Teachers, Strong Indonesia”.

Teachers determine the quality of human resources, the nation's generation who continue the struggle and are responsible for advancing the nation and state. Great teachers determine the quality of learning, the quality of graduates, and the quality of human resources.

The student-teacher ratio describes the teaching capacity per one teacher. In 2023, on average, each primary school teacher in Balikpapan City will teach 20 students. At junior high school level, each teacher will teach 18 students on average, and at senior high school level, each teacher will teach 18 students on average. This ratio is the ratio between the number of students and the number of teachers at a particular level of education to determine the average number of teachers who can serve students in a particular school or area. If the ratio is high, this means that one teacher has to serve many students. The number of students taught will reduce the students' ability to grasp the lessons given or reduce the effectiveness of teaching.
