BPS-Statistic as the Single Data Leader
“Law Number 16 of 1997 concerning Statistics is urgent to be revised because it is no longer implementable and no longer relevant to the conditions and needs of the community. In addition, currently there are still differences in data between ministries / agencies, so the availability of single data as a tool in designing government policies is very important,” said Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR RI, Bob Hasan in opening the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) between BPS and Baleg DPR RI in Cikarang.
As an effort to accelerate the drafting of the Bill on Statistics, BPS initiated a meeting with members of Baleg DPR RI on December 2-4, 2024. On that occasion, Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti conveyed an overview of the main tasks and functions of BPS. Furthermore, Amalia also mentioned that BPS received a big mandate from President Prabowo to become a leader in providing single data. “Just like the expectations of the members of Baleg, President Prabowo really hopes that BPS will become a single data leader that integrates social and economic data. This is so that data is not scattered and creates confusion in the community,” said Amalia.
The acceleration of the drafting of this bill also helps BPS in the implementation of the upcoming 2026 Economic Census (SE2026), where the bill regulates in detail the obligations of respondents in receiving officers and answering questions asked by officers. “This bill will support BPS in providing accurate and higher quality Economic Census data,” Amalia concluded.
