International Parliament Day is celebrated every June 30 as a form of respect for the important role of parliaments in fighting for democracy, voicing the aspirations of the people, and maintaining justice and transparency in government.

This commemoration was established by the United Nations (UN) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) since 2018, as a form of appreciation for the existence of legislative institutions around the world.

In this moment, let's take a look at the portrait of our local parliament!

Based on the publication "Balikpapan in Figures 2025", the age composition of DPRD members of Balikpapan City in 2024 is as follows:

🔹 60 years and above: 15.6%

🔹 40-49 years old: 35.6%

🔹 50-59 years old: 28.9%

🔹 30-39 years old: 15.6%

🔹 20-29 years old: 4,4%

👥 It can be seen that most members are in the 40-59 years age range, reflecting the dominance of an age group with mature experience. However, representation from the younger generation (20-29 years old) is still very limited.

International Parliament Day is a reminder of the importance of encouraging more inclusive and diverse representation, so that all age groups, including young people, play a role in the direction of public policy.
